Fusion Cuisine - Malaysian Banana Leaf

One of the restaurants we go to, Banana Leaf in Milpitas has this appetizer called Roti Prata. I love it.

We make this at home with Malaysian Frozen Roti and Maggi sauce + ghee. This works out almost as good as the one from Banana Leaf.

MY HERO - GUMPEI YOKOI

Gunpei Yokoi 1941-1997

A Different Kind of Hero

GUMPEI YOKOI - INVENTOR OF GAMEBOY

Gunpei Yokoi 1941-1997

My hero is Gumpei Yokoi (1941-1997) who invented GameBoy in 1989. Gumpei Yokoi grew up in Kyoto, Japan. He got an Electrical Engineering College Degree and got a job with Nintendo. With his hard work and creativity, Gumpei became more and more important for his company. He is famous for inventing the Game Boy and Nintendo Entertainment System. His easy-to-play toys, his success and intelligence in developing these toys made him one of the greatest.

Gumpei realized that kids did not want big, expensive, complex toys that drained the batteries three hours after opening the gifts on Christmas morning. His formula for success was:

Small Size + Low cost + Long Battery Life + Ease of Use + Games that are difficult to stay away from = Mega $$$$$$

The GameBoy has 100 million units sold and is the world’s best-selling video game system. It is the oldest still being used game system (fifteen years).

What is a GameBoy? A GameBoy is a thing that you can carry everywhere. The GameBoy has many different games. These are removable GameBoy cartridges. My favorites are Pokemon and Super Mario Brothers 3.

I play with the GameBoy Advance SP. Every game has many levels and I have lots of fun in beating the levels. GameBoy is my single most favorite toy. I enjoy helping others in beating levels also. When I play the games, I concentrate and sometimes feel that I am inside the game. I feel very happy when I beat the level and my heart starts beating rapidly sometimes. My GameBoy helps me make friends with other GameBoy playing kids, especially at sleepovers. At sleepovers it is a lot of fun because we play with our GameBoys all night long. Sometimes when I get up at 2AM, I feel like playing GameBoy instead of going back to sleep, and going further to the next level in the game.

The GameBoy has given me lots of thrilling moments. The next invention could be a GameBoy with an umbrella to help you play in the rain.
When I grow up, I want to invent a toy for kids that will bring fun to millions of kids worldwide. I want to invent the Game Pyramid, which is basically a projection headset. You put on the headsets and a pyramid will get projected in front of you, and you can use your fingers to play.

I am sure many 3rd grader kids around the world will thank Gumpei Yokoi for inventing such a fantastic toy for us. He has done a lot to make kids like me happy. He is definitely my special hero!

Fusion Holiday Celebration - Diwali2Xmas

HOW I celebrate my holidays?

Our holiday celebrations is a fusion celebration with Indian and American festivitity.

It start with the Indian festival Dassara, usually in early October. We celebrate the triumph of good over evil by dancing a traditional Indian dance called the Dandia, which is dancing with short sticks with the Garba music. After Dassara, we celebrate Halloweeen, which is really fun, as kids get to go trick-or-treating and get lots of candy. We get to wear our favorite costume and put scary stuff around the house, carve the pumpkins. Soon after, we celebrate Thanksgiving with a vegetarian feast with family and friends. This is a formal sitdown lunch.

But before Thanksgiving, we celebrate Diwali, which is the Indian festival of lights. My dad decorates the outside of the house with lights. Our neighbors used to wonder why we have the house lit up, but now they all know. In fact one of them already knew about Diwali and he was not Indian. My cousin comes over to my house and we celebrate by lighting up July 4th fireworks. That is really fun. We also light up lamps on the day of Diwali and put all around the house. We also worship the God of Wisdom and Wealth (Ganesh Laksmi), We wear new clothes and then after the pooja we get to eat sweets and a traditional Diwali dinner. This dinner is special, as we continue a tradition of eating a few things that has been done in our family for generations.

This is all building up to my favorite holiday, which is Christmas. We have been listening to Christmas songs in the van and my dad tells us stories from previous Christmases and we get really excited about December 25th. We start looking forward to Christmas as soon as Diwali ends. We go to watch the Nutcracker sometimes. I was scared the first time as a three year old. We start turning on our diwali lights around first week of December and it makes me feel very happy to see the lights on every night. We bake the cookies and put some milk for Santa. I usually try to stay awake to see Santa bring up gifts, though I do get to see where he is on the internet. By the time he is on the East Coast, I am already sleepy. Next day, we get up to usually see many boxes of presents from Santa waiting for us. My cousin comes over and we rip the gifts and also exchange gifts. My aunts and uncles from all over send me gifts and I am not allowed to open them.

Aloo Paratha and Cookie Dough - what a combination

Do you have a favorite meal? I do! My favorite appetizer is garlic bread. The best main course is potatoes stuffed in Indian bread. The dessert I love is cookie dough. All together, they make a mouth watering meal that I enjoy.

My number one appetizer is garlic bread. I like it because it is crunchy and crispy. Even though you have to toast it for some time, it is worth it. It is not too hot or too cold, but just right. When it is crispy and crunchy I like it a little better, but it should not be too crispy. I usually sprinkle some red pepper to spice it up. All in all, my favorite appetizer is garlic bread.

Of all the food in the world, my favorite dinner is potatoes stuffed in Indian bread. I already liked potatoes and Indian bread. So I thought it might not be bad to try potatoes stuffed in Indian bread. When I tasted it, I thought it was delicious. It was warm and fresh in taste. It was mildly spicy. I like it better with side dishes like yogurt or pickles. Potatoes stuffed in Indian bread may be my favorite dinner for a long time.

My favorite dessert is definitely cookie dough. I like the dough more than the chocolate chips because I do not like chocolate much. It is delicious because the dough is so soft and chewy. I love soft and chewy cookies too. One day I tried cookie dough and it was so delicious that I wanted a lot more of it. From that day onwards, my favorite dessert has become cookie dough.

In conclusion, these foods make up my favorite meal. I like garlic bread as the best appetizer. Potato stuffed in Indian bread is my absolute favorite main entrée. And my most preferred dessert is cookie dough.

Fear and Courage

“Courage” and “Fear”

Courage, to me, means that you are brave. It means you’re not afraid to do an amazing thing. Somebody might care about someone a lot. They might have the courage to save that person’s life even if they would be in great danger. Matt was courageous in the book, The Sign of the Beaver. He wasn’t afraid to go to the bees just to get honey. He had the courage and wasn’t fearful of getting stung by the bees.

To me, fear means to be afraid of something. You don’t have the courage to do the thing you fear because you will be too frightened. In the book, The Sign of the Beaver, Matt feared a few things. When Attean took Matt into the forest, he was afraid. Matt had never seen Attean’s dog before he saw him in the forest. Matt thought Attean was trying to do something to him. Also, when Matt first met Attean, Matt didn’t know who he was. He feared Attean, but later Attean turned out to be his friend.

Fear and courage are very similar. If you fear something you should have the courage to do it to overcome your fear. I do think you have to experience fear to have courage. You have to know that you are fearful of something. Then you can go about having the courage to do it. If you remain fearful, you may loose out on trying new things. You have to overcome your fear to have the courage to get past your fear.

My Disney Cruise

MY DISNEY CRUISE

BOOM! My mom and Dad banged at my bedroom door one morning. I was sleeping and it really woke me up.

“We are going to go on a Disney Cruise and the ship we are going on is humongous,” my Dad added. “It is going to have a lot of fun games.” “Also, we will have our very own room to stay in”, my Mom said. I was so amazed.

After two weeks we flew out from San Francisco to Orlando, Florida for our Disney Cruise vacation.

I was very surprised when I saw how big the cruise ship was. It was the length of three Argonaut Elementary School buildings put together. The ship had about ten floors. It had elevators too at every end and every corner. They even had a movie theatre which had Disney movies, like Incredibles, playing all day long. There were Disney characters walking about on the ship all the time. There were Disney pictures, paintings, images, magnets, decoration everywhere on the ship. Everywhere we went, there were photographers taking our pictures. There were three swimming pools on the 10th floor. There was even a huge water slide that was attached to one of the pools.

My brother and I had an autograph book for all the Disney characters to sign in. One time I saw a whole room full of Disney characters. My Dad said “Rishub, go stand for a picture.” So, I got a picture with a lot of the characters. I got the autograph of almost every Disney character.

There was a kids club where the kids could stay with some staff while the parents did other activities. The kids club had lots of fun activities to do. We made arts and crafts. We also played board games. There was a Spider-Man game and I liked it a lot. My brother who was only three years old was a bit anxious, but since there were so many fun activities going on in the kids club, he would soon forget and start having a good time. I was the champion of computer games in the kids club. Little kids would walk up to me and say, “Rishub, can you please show me how to score points in this game”? I would then say, “Sure”. I actually felt good when I got a chance to show off my skills with some of the games. But, I didn’t tell them that I had played these games many times at home, as I pretended to be the expert.

Finally, at the end of the trip, when my parents said “Time to go, Rishub”, I was very unhappy. But I knew we couldn’t be there forever. My Dad was somewhat bored and said “We are never coming here again!” I was not very happy after he said that. I knew it was a hard thing for them to book and take the time off to get there. But I ignored it. I knew we would probably return again someday.

Hot water joke

My friend Ajith and I found this story amusing and made a video of it.
Hope you enjoy it.

Here is my dad's description of the video.
"Backdrop to this - So in our stay in a small tiny town in coastal India back in 2004, there wasn't any hot water ... all » connection inside the room. We had requested one of the staff to bring in hot water to our room every morning . This guy, whose name we never found out, ended up waking us up on an ungodly hour every morning. He would make a huge racket as he slammed the red hot metal bucket down on the floor and then he would start pounding on the door as if there was a fire or something, shouting SIR, I GOT HOT WATER, HOT WATER like a zillion times... and he would do this at like 4AM in the morning, much before the designated time. This is a spoof of the kid's rendition of this fine water guy and his bucket of water."

Dave and Busters Arcade fun

I went to Dave and Busters with my friend.

The cool part was there were cards that can hold tokens. You slide it in a slot on the machine. Then the machine gives out tokens for you to play the game.

The game that we played most was lots of fun. First you put a token in a slot. Then it goes in the machine and pushes a chain of coins. Then at the end if the coins fell in a hole you got tickets. The more nickels that fall in the hole the more tickets you get. It was suspenseful. We enjoyed it because it gave a lot of tickets

Then we went to the ticket exchange counter. We had 322 tickets since we only played for about half an hour. We took a long time to pick the prizes. We ended up getting a flash pop. A flash pop is basically a push pop that flashes if you press a button. We also got two frisbees.

Overall I like this arcade. It is fun. It also gives a lot more tickets than any other arcade place I have been too.

The Haunted House (a story I wrote in second grade)

http://www.storiesfromtheweb.org/gallery/sspopup.asp?ID=20027

This is a story I wrote from three halloweens ago

The Haunted House by Rishub

Once upon a time, on Halloween night some kids were trick-or-treating. They went around their neighbor-hood. Once that was done, they wanted to do more trick-or-treating. So they went to the next neighbor-hood.

As it happens, one of the houses in that neighbor-hood was a haunted house. There was a password to get inside this haunted house. But the kids did not know it. They tried out a lot of passwords until they got the password right. The password was O-S-T-A. They were excited.

The kids opened the gate and went inside this house. They found an ugly, scary witch in the house. They were scared. The witch did not give them any candy. So they said “Do you have any candy for us? “.

The witch replied “NO, BUT I AM GOING TO PUT A SPELL ON YOUR PARENTS TO TURN THEM INTO GHOSTS”.

The kids were scared and wanted to run all the way back home as fast as they could. But before they could run out of the door, lots of monsters trapped them inside. The kids did karate on the monsters and once again tried to run back home. The monsters chased them, but the kids punched them again. Finally, the kids got home and they found that their parents were turned into ghosts.

So they ran back to the haunted house and sneaked behind the witch and found her spell book. They now found out how the witch turned everybody into ghosts. The third chapter, “How to reverse the ghost spell”, talked about how to reverse the spell and get people back to normal.

The kids did the spell on the whole world and everybody was back to normal. The kids saved the day!

Then the kids looked into the spell book and they found out how to make the witch die. They did the magic spell and the witch died.

The kids wanted to have a party now. Since they loved trick-or-treating, they decided to trick-or-treat around the whole world. When they got back home, they never knew that they had trick-or-treated for the whole week. Somehow, the parents did not know they were gone for that long. The kids were tired when they got back home, so they fell asleep for a whole year and missed everything, like their birthday, their school, including the next Halloween. To top that, their parents even ate their birthday cake.

After the kids woke up, they went on their rocket ship to Uranus. They got the super-power juice and drank it and wished that Halloween was every day.

DS Lite - Why I love it

The DS lite is great. One of the reasons I like it is because it has bright screen. I have been begging my parents to get me the DS lite but instead I got it for Christmas. I was hoping for a white one but I got a black one. But still a black one is fine. A DS lite is a little more different than a regular DS. Obviously it has a brighter screen. That is one difference. Another one is that it has a different charger, so you can't put a DS lite on a DS or SP charger. This is a tiny difference. The DS lite comes with two styluses and the DS only comes with one. Also on the DS lite the Game Boy Advance games stick out but on the DS they don't. I like the DS lite more than the DS because of some of the differences. If you were to buy a DS I would tell you to buy the DS lite.

My Very Merry Christmas

"Rishub, Rishub, Rishub", my brother was trying to wake me up. I got up rubbed my eyes and was about to scold him for waking me up so early when I suddenly remembered it was Xmas morning. I jumped down onto the lower bunk bed with a mission. Finally, it was Christmas morning!

We ran to the living room. Our eyes almost popped out. The Christmas tree was still lit and there were lots of wrapped presents underneath the tree. We were very happy to see that, as our dad kept insisting for the last few days that we were going to get coal. Then my brother ran to the fireplace to see if Santa had eaten all the cookies. We discovered that Santa ate only one bite from each cookie. But at least he had left us some toys.

--- edited ----

We really liked this Christmas specially because of Pokemon LeafGreen. My brother was very excited about this Christmas. He said "This is the best day of my life".

I liked this Christmas a lot too, mostly because I got the DS lite.
This is my brother and I standing in front of the lit xmas tree.

Barnyard - movie with a great message

This was a cool movie. I guarantee this will make you laugh. It can be a little sad at times but it is a very good movie. This movie is an animated movie about a cow called Otis. This movie teaches us not to be afraid, but to confront our fears. Ben (Otis's dad) says in this movie that if you are a strong man, you stand up for yourself and If you are stronger, you stand up for others. I understood it and agree with him. If we run away from our fears, we will forever fear them. This movie teaches us responsibility.

It was so good that I made my dad watch it. He thought that it would be bad. I could tell by looking at his face, and also because we had to drag him to the family room to watch it. But after the movie he said it was the best movie ever. He even offered it to my neighbors and they watched it and said it was good. You should definitely watch this movie and you will be happy you watched it. This movie rocks!

Chaat Paradise - best Indian chaat type food

I have been to Chaat Paradise a billion times. I like it a lot. It is Indian fast food with regular Indian lunch and dinner. The food they serve here is vegetarian - food without meat.

Chaat Paradise
www.chaatparadise.com
165 E El Camino Real
Mountain View, CA 94040
(650) 965-1111

My meal starts with Dahi Batata Sev Poori. I share it with my brother sometimes. Then I eat the Pani Poori right after. Usually the main dish comes before I am finished. This means their service is very prompt.

The main dish is always Aloo Parantha for me. I eat it with Raitha. The Aloo Parantha is huge as I am used to my Mom making smaller ones at our home. It takes a long time for me to finish because it is so big. My Grandmom once wanted to eat the Aloo Parantha here so that she could make it exactly like them. It is really yummy.

My Mom usually eats Hara-Bhara Parantha. It has mooli, palak, gobi, and aloo in it. I have never tried it but my Mom says it is healthy.

My dad eats Cholay Bhaturay. It is Poori with Cholay and I sometimes eat a little of it after taking it from him. And i have to admit that it is pretty good too.

This restaurant is very good. I recommend going there. It is especially good if you like Chaat a lot. My mom also orders THIRTY Rotis to go, that we eat with sabzee at home. The rotis are the best that you can get in South Bay.

Saravana Bhavan - best chutney in bay area

Saravana Bhavan
http://www.saravanabhavan.com
1305 S Mary Ave
Sunnyvale, California 94087
(408) 616-7755

I have been here a million times.

To start off, I usually eat Mini Idli with Sambar. They put a lot of ghee on the Mini Idli. I finish a lot quicker than my brother and I probably eat about 5-10 of them. When I am finished I complain that my food is not here and everybody else's food is here. But in a few minutes my food arrives. I usually eat Plain Dosa as the main dish. This is how it looks like, yummy. My mouth is watering right now looking at this picture.

I eat the Dosa with spicy chutnee and sambar. My Dad always orders Rava Masala Dosa - same as my younger brother. So I take a tiny masala from him to eat with my Dosa. I love the green chutney as it is freshly made and very very spicy. It has a unique taste that my Mom has not been able to duplicate. My Mom makes way smaller Dosas at home so the dosas at Sarvana Bhavan look very big to me. My Mom usually orders Onion Uthappa.

After my Dad finishes he orders coffee. It is very hot. My brother asks for a taste every time. I ask from time to time but I barely get it because I always ask when my Dad has already finished. I don't particularly like the hot coffee. But my dad and brother love it.

Then, when we are leaving I take mishari - it is the sweet indian sugar cubes but a lot smaller than regular ones. They are very tasty but recently, they don't have it anymore. I truly miss it.

This restaurant is very good. I recommend going there. Go there and you will be happy that you listened to me.

I transformed myself into an Elf

http://www.elfyourself.com/?userid=aa5801c11136e5aa2b26a9fG06121920

This is me. I look very weird in the elf costume but I am not saying that any elf is weird. My Dad did it for the whole family on the internet and everybody looks very weird except my brother. My brother is the right size to be an elf so he doesn't look weird. Everybody else in my family is too tall to be an elf. I look very weird so you might laugh a couple times.

Tandoor Cafe - Freshest/ Greatest Naan of the world

Tandoor Cafe was very yummy.

The best item there is the Garlic Naan. It tasted very good with raitha. I liked the raitha a lot and it complemented the spicy Cholay very well. The Cholay wasn't the best but it was good. After we finished eating my Dad got up and said,"The garlic naan was good but the Cholay was not as good".

My brother wanted a Chaat Samosa which came with dhal, chana, aloo, chutnee, raitha along with the Samosa. I got a taste too. When I tasted it, it was very spicy. It was so spicy that I only ate half of what my brother gave me. My Mom ate the rest.

My Dad ate the Paneer Tika. He said that it was alright, not the best but still very good. He later ordered some more Garlic Naan with Dhal. He asked me if I wanted to share some of the garlic Naan with him before he ordered it but I said no. When he actually ordered it, it looked so appealing, I ended up eating a quarter of it. My brother ate the other quarter :-)
It was fluffy, warm and fresh, just perfect.

I recommend going to this restaurant. If you like spicy stuff then I think this restaurant is perfect for you. Remember, Tandoor Cafe. Check it out and you won't regret it.

Want to call Santa?

Santa's Phone Number: 1-800-972-6242 It is just a recording, but you will love it.
It starts giving a message on December 13th because it counts down the 12 days until Christmas.
This phone number gives you a different message everyday until Christmas so feel free to call daily.

My brother types this phone number every day. Santa always comes on the phone and tells about the nice and naughty list. Then he tells how many more days until Christmas.

My brother really likes it so call Santa today. Remember,1800-972-6242.

We played santa games from www.miniclips.com.

We also looked at tracking santa from http://www.noradsanta.org/index.php the Norad Santa Tracker. I have used it for the past almost 4 years to see when Santa is going to come to my home.
I love these Santa movies .....Santa clause 1,2,3,

School breaks - Yeah! and Sign of the Beaver Xmas Party

The last day of school this year was fun. We didn't study at all!

The best part was when we got to watch the movie, "The Sign of the Beaver." We had just finished the book report on this, and it was good to watch the movie. Not only that, we had hot chocolate. Some parents provided us with cookies. They were very good. The donuts were also very good.

We got a candy cane from one of our classmates. Every Friday at the office they give candy. But instead they gave candy canes.

My brother went for a play date at his friends house so my Mom came early to pick me up from after school care. I played a few video games at home. It felt real good to not have any homework that needed done. Then my Dad came and asked me if I wanted a play date and I said I did.

Then my buddy came over and we had lots of fun. We played video games on the xbox, computer and DS. He stayed until 6:30. Then I said bye to him and he left.

I am now looking forward to the rest of my Christmas break.
This is what I would like to do

Nickel City Party

Just got back from my friend's birthday party. It was at a birthday party place called Nickel City.

The cool part was the arcade machines accepted nickels. There were all sorts of games at this arcade.

My favorite game was worth three nickels, but it was a lot of fun.You insert three nickels and a button starts flashing in front of you. When you push the button a ball falls. There is slots for the ball to go in like 1,2,5,10,20,50,75, 100 and Jackpot. That was the # of tickets you get. There was also a slot where it said 2 bonus plays which means you get to play two times for free.

I bought candy like Air Heads, jolly ranchers, and lemon heads.

Then it was pizza and cake time. Then we had to wait for two more boxes. We also got to pick a soda. The cake was very good because it was all chocolate and I love chocolate.

I recommend going there. It is very, very, very fun.

My day with Coach Jim Calhoun (Fiction)

A few weeks back, my Dad came to me excited and said, "We can go to the University of Connecticut and meet Coach Jim Calhoun and our favorite team the Connecticut Huskies!" That was exciting news!

So the next day, we flew to Connecticut. I finally was at Uconn and saw the team practicing. After practice, I went up to Jim Calhoun, and said, "In the Big East Tournament game with Syracuse, why didn't you tell Rashad Anderson to foul Gerry McNamara when there were still a few seconds left in the game and he was shooting a three to tie the game?" Coach Jim replied. "If he made the three-pointer when he got fouled, we may have lost it at the free throw line." I said "I see, then you should have told someone to foul him before." Coach Jim responded, "Anyway, I like the Syracuse coach. He is my friend, and if they had lost that game they would not have made it to the NCAA tournament. We would make it to the tournament even if we lost that game."

I requested Coach to see his players do a scrimmage? Coach Jim said, "Sure". The Blue team had Rudy Gay, Marcus Williams, Josh Boone etc. and the opposing White team had Hilton Armstrong, Rashad Anderson, Denham Brown etc. At the start, Rudy Gay had a few blocks on the defensive end and also a few alley-oops with Marcus Williams. Also, Hilton's blocked a few and Rashad Anderson had back to back threes. It was very exciting. Finally, when it ended the score was 33-32 and Rudy Gay's team won.

I got everybody's autographs and flew home. Then I put them on my wall in my room. This would be a real fun day with Coach Jim Calhoun – if it ever happened.

Joke - Dumb Manners Stupid

This is a joke that I adapted from something I heard.

Once there were three boys. Their names were Dumb, Manners, and Stupid and they all lived in the same house. Once, they ran out of toilet paper and they sent Stupid to go get some. A little bit later Manners had to go to the bathroom and found that they didn't have any toilet paper. So Manners sent Dumb to go find Stupid. Dumb was in a hurry and was driving real fast. A cop pulled him over. "Why are you driving so fast?" asked the cop. Dumb said "I'm looking for Stupid." While he said that he waved his hand pointing towards the cop unintentionally. The cop was not happy at being called Stupid and said "What? Are you Dumb?" Dumb politely said "Yes, right on". The cop was even more upset and said,"WHERE ARE YOUR MANNERS?" Dumb was really confused now over why the cop was getting upset and gently said, "I left him sitting on the potty."

Hope you enjoyed this joke. My friends and I are planning to make a google video of this soon. Coming soon......

I walked into"Passage to India". We went into the wrong door (the old entrance). The entrance is now right on El Camino. Parking is a problem, but we found a good spot. My parents said I had been here before but it didn't look familiar. As I walked inside to sit, it started to look familiar. It has been nicely redesigned.

It was not very crowded. We were going to have the afternoon buffett. The food was good! I liked the Cholay Baturay and the Garlic Naan. The Cholay I tasted was almost the best ever.

My dad said that it was great to have the freshly made Bhaturay, Naan and Pav Bhaji as they were brought out to replenish. The desserts were very good too, he said. I did not taste any. He liked t burger is too. Lots of Indian fast food for you to try out.

I did not try the tomato soup, but my mom said it was good.

By the way, they also have Pizza. I didn't taste it. But my brother and my dad said it was alright.

Overall I liked this restaurant. I would recommend it.

I liked the Garlic Naan, but not the Cholay
I also tried Chaat Papdi, that was good.

My dad said it was even health food.

Go check it out.
